Rare Says No Goldeneye for Xbox Live

After a long period of speculation and probably more wishful thinking than anything, developer Rare put to rest the rumor of Nintendo’s 64-bit smash hit Goldeneye 007 making its way to Xbox Live. From a quote on Rare’s website it seemed as if there may have been a small window of opportunity long ago, but there are no plans to port the game at this time, if ever.

“That was some time ago, my friend,” it said. “Fate was against us that day. Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury. I suspect we’re long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know. Stranger things have happened… somewhere… probably.”

Mike: Would Goldeneye’s rebirth be anything past nostalgia? It’s hard to say, but with the Halo’s and Call of Duty’s of the world ruling the FPS market it might just be that, nostalgia. You can’t argue against more games on Xbox Live Arcade though, so I’m hoping as many games like Goldeneye make their way over as possible.
